Bob Kutscbach, owner and broker of Carleton Realty, talks about when you should start talking to a lender when buying a home.
When buying a home, it is best to speak to a lender sooner rather than later! People tend to get excited when they are starting the home buying process. They want to go see houses, thinking that they will take care of meeting with a lender later. This is a mistake! A lender can help identify what type of loan you qualify for, what down payment assistance you may need, your closing costs, etc. Without this information, it is very hard to make an offer that is the best for you.
It is best to talk to the lender before you start the home search. It would be awful to lose your dream home because you didn’t know what terms to write in your offer to make it competitive. You want to make your first offer your best offer!
